X FACTOR CELEBRITY was back for its third live show this evening as two more acts found themselves eliminated from the competition. However, viewers were left outraged as Simon Cowell appeared to introduce a change to the rules live on this evening’s programme.
X Factor Celebrity has featured a host of famous faces try their hand at singing on Simon Cowell’s latest show. This evening, as Simon found two of his acts, V5 and No Love Lost, in the bottom two, he left viewers confused as he hinted they could both stay in the competition.
This evening saw No Love Lost, a group made up of four 2018 Love Island contestants, eliminated from the competition, as Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger voted to save the other group in the bottom two, V5.
For the first time in the competition, there was a sing-off between the two acts with the lowest votes, as the two groups went head to head to fight for a place in next week’s show.
Nicole and Louis opted to save V5, which meant Simon’s vote would not have changed the result.
However, In a shock turn of events, he appeared to introduce a change to the rules live on air, after one of his groups was voted out.
“I’ll tell you what we’re going to do Dermot, no one’s agreed to this, but when we get to whoever’s going to be in the final.
“I’m going to put a public vote to put whoever is the most popular loser into the final,” he continued.
Turning to the eliminated act, he said: “Even though you’re [No Love Lost] out, you’ve still got a chance of getting into the final.”
Viewers were quick to react to the sudden change of format, calling it “embarrassing.”
“How many rules does @simoncowell need to make up on the spot? He’s ad-libbing this whole thing. #XFactor #CelebrityXFactor,” asked one confused viewer.
Another shared: “What’s the bet Simon has only just come up with this vote for bringing someone back just because both his acts are in the bottom 2? Yes it’s his show, but the format manipulation every 5 minutes is terrible. No wonder it’s failing. #XFactor #XFactorCelebrity”
“Simon making the rules up as the show progresses is embarrassing. Each week is another nail in the coffin. #XFactorCelebrity #XFactor,” tweeted a third.
“Simon just bends the rules to suit his acts #XFactor,” decided another.
A fifth angered viewer stated: “The X Factor is a mess. @ITV NEED to axe it now. Simon Cowell is the problem and is the reason why there’s only 3 million people watching. #XFactorCelebrity #XFactor
It comes after it was revealed that X Factor Celebrity had been suffering from low ratings.
Telly Mix reported that only 3.5 million viewers tuned in for the first live show on October 26th, and has struggled as its rival Strictly Come Dancing has been getting far greater figures.
This week, it was also revealed that the X Factor: All Stars format, which was meant to air this year, had been scrapped.
The show, which was to feature successful contestants from the past, was dropped, as Simon last week announced his new show plan X Factor: The Band
There have also been rumours that the backstage team has been changed in an attempt to try and reignite the show.
A source told The Daily Star: “It’s not uncommon for creative teams to change throughout a series run. And that means making tough decisions.”
Who will prove a hit with the judges and viewers as the show continues next weekend?
