The Crown’s Helena Bonham Carter reveals what ‘ghost of Princess Margaret’ warned her

THE CROWN season three drops on Netflix later this month and will see Helena Bonham Carter take over the role of Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby. Now, the actress has claimed she spoke to the late royal with the help of a medium.

The Crown star Helena has claimed she had Princess Margaret’s blessing to play her in the Netflix series after speaking to her with the help of a medium. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show tonight, she explained the ghost said she’d be “better” than the other actor going for the part.

Helena was asked about reports she had spoken to the ghost of Princess Margaret on the BBC chat show.

“This story has gathered its own momentum,” Helena said.

“I actually went to see a friend about something else but she has a talent for mediumship.

“Suddenly she said, ‘Margaret is here. Does that mean anything?’”

Helena went on to explain: “I hadn’t actually said yes yet, but I thought I’d ask her if I should take the role.

“She said, ‘You’ll be better than the other one.’

“There was actually someone else up for the part and it was typical of Margaret.”

The actress explained she had met Princess Margaret before her death in 2002.

“I’d met her a few times and you never really knew where you were with her,” Helena commented.

“She had a way of complimenting and putting you down at the same time.”

Helena was joined by Olivia Colman, who has taken over as Queen Elizabeth from Claire Foy.

Asked if she’s met any of the royal family, Olivia explained she’d had an awkward moment with Prince William.

“Yes, but it didn’t go very well,” she revealed.

“I met Prince William at a dinner and he asked what I was doing ay the moment before he quickly added, ‘Actually I know what you’re doing?’

“I was so excited and asked, ‘Have you watched it?’ His answer was a firm ‘no.’

“But he was very charming and very lovely.”

It comes after former Princess Margaret star Vanessa Kirby revealed there were a few sex scenes cut from the series.

She explained: “There was a sex scene between Elizabeth and Philip in the first season.

“I think they were in South Africa filming, and they were like, ‘I just don’t think anyone wants to see the Queen having sex.’”
