STRICTLY COME DANCING is now entering its eighth week of the competition, and as the couples are just one week away from the chance to perform at Blackpool, they will be hoping to seriously impress the judges in order to make it through to next weekend. This week, Anton Du Beke revealed he is taking part in a show first.

Strictly Come Dancing saw Karim Zeroual top the leaderboard last weekend with his partner Amy Dowden as they performed a Quickstep to Mr. Pinstripe suit by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, scoring them a near perfect 39 points. Anton found himself at the bottom of the leaderboard with Emma Barton, but is hoping to move back up this weekend with their Couple’s Choice routine.

Anton Du Beke has been a professional dancer since the show commenced in 2004 but has never won the series, but has taken this year’s series by storm with EastEnders actress Emma Barton as his partner.

The pair have generally succeeded with their routines, however, last week the pair failed to impress with their Rumba.

It saw them tumble to the the bottom of the leaderboard, scoring just 22 points, but they were saved by the public vote as they continue to prove popular with fans.

The judges delivered Emma a huge blow as they heavily criticised their performance, leading head-judge Shirley Ballas to clash with her dance partner Anton.

She told Emma: “First of all, I want to say, you’re tall, you’re elegant, and you have everything it takes to do a beautiful Rumba before I say what I’m about to say.

“The only timing I could read was the basic, the alemana and the sliding doors – three bars of Rumba.

“The rest of it, I have no idea on what count you were dancing this dance,” she continued.

As she was booed by the audience, the head judge hit back: “Hang on a minute, there are four beats, there are three steps. You have to understand that.”

Anton hit back and told her: “Sometimes there are four steps and three beats. Sometimes there are five steps and seven beats…. sometimes there are no steps!

Although the pair found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard, they were saved by the public, leading them to taking part in a show first for Anton this weekend.

The veteran pro revealed on tonight’s It Takes Two that he has never performed a Couple’s Choice routine on the show before.

He told the camera that this weekend is his “first Couple’s Choice dance” and said he is “enjoying it enermously.”

As Emma explained how the pair had been getting on in training, she stated: “At the beginning of the number, I’m really clean, but towards the end, I’m struggling.”

“Actually, I’m not doing too bad I don’t think,” she noted.

Anton reassured his partner, telling her: “You’re doing really well.”

“Musical theatre jazz style is so exciting,” Emma continued.

Anton then revealed that: “I think it’s going to change my idea of what my favourite dance is!”

They will be performing a Theatre Jazz inspired Couple’s Choice routine to Right Now by The Pussycat Dolls.

The pair will be hoping to impress and climb their way back up to the leaderboard as the competition heats up.

Long-term fans of the programme will know that Anton has has only made it through to the final once before despite featuring in every series.

Last year, he was the first to be knocked out of the programme alongside Susannah Constantine, as they failed to hit it off with the judges.

Will he and Emma manage to make it through to next week’s Blackpool special?
