ONE of Queen Elizabeth II’s “secret wishes” became true thanks to the designer and royal dresser Angela Kelly who published a book on the Monarch this month, a royal expert has revealed.
Kaitlin Menza, royal commentator on the Royally Obsessed podcast, revealed Ms Kelly made one of the Queen’s “secret” wishes come true while she was working on her latest book on the Monarch. Ms Menza claimed that the official royal dresser to the Monarch recalled a conversation with the Queen in which she confessed her wish to be photographed informally. So Ms Kelly ensured Her Majesty’s “secret” wish would come true in her latest book.
Ms Menza said: “Queen Elizabeth apparently confided in Angela Kelly, who was her long-time maid and dresser, that she had a secret wish to be photographed informally.
“Because she usually has to be painstakingly posed in portraits.
“And her mum and Palace aides always forced her to do that.
“So when Kelly was working on her book she recalled the conversation and asked the Queen if she would model with her hands in her pockets.”
She went on to read a quote from Ms Kelly’s book in which she reportedly said: “The Queen looked at me in amazement when I asked whether she knew the potential implications of the photographs.
“She didn’t take long to answer.
“Yes, she would do it. And yes, she was sure.”
The Sun reported that the book from chief dresser Angela Kelly has provoked fury from staff within the Household who feel Ms Kelly is cashing in while revealing too much about Her Majesty.
Courtiers are concerned over Ms Kelly publishing a photo of the Queen on a day bed in the book. A royal source said: “Angela Kelly’s book has caused genuine outrage at the Palace.
“Most staff working for the Queen — including many senior ones — are paid a relatively low salary and are expected to keep their royal secrets to the grave.
“Now Angela has thrown out all of those traditions in order to pocket a handsome sum for herself.”
Ms Kelly is currently working on the book about corgis.
The picture of the Queen on the day bed was put in this book and was published in Hello! magazine.
A source explained: “There is a debate going on about whether the Queen was actually aware the picture was going to be published.
“But Angela is insistent she had full knowledge of everything before it was published. Nothing would have been a surprise to her and she is delighted with the results.
“It just feels like a very personal picture to have out there, which many of the traditionalists don’t think is appropriate.”
But Buckingham Palace insisted: “The Queen was very involved in the process involved in the making of, and publication of The Other Side Of The Coin.
“It reflects the close 25-year working relationship between Ms Kelly and Her Majesty.”
