Jurgen Klopp has offered a positive injury update on Mohamed Salah but the Liverpool star is still unlikely to feature when the Reds face Arsenal at Anfield tonight (7.30pm).

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to risk either Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk for the Carabao Cup Round of 16 clash against Arsenal.

Salah limped off after scoring the winner from the penalty spot against Tottenham on Sunday and was seen with an ice pack wrapped around his ankle after the final whistle.

Meanwhile, Van Dijk suffered a dead leg in the same match and also sported an ice pack but neither injury is said to be serious.

Speaking after the 2-1 victory, Klopp said: “Virgil has got a dead leg. It’s painful but he will be fine.

“And Mo is his ankle, it gets sore the longer the game goes but it is not a massive issue.”

Despite playing down the extent of the problems, Klopp is not expected to call upon his star duo against the Gunners as Liverpool chase their first domestic silverware since 2012.

The Reds boss is likely to make a host of changes, recalling Adrian in goal while Joe Gomez should come into the side in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Dejan Lovren will retain his centre-back berth but Joel Matip is out until December so youngster Sepp van den Berg could deputise for Van Dijk.

Ki-Jana Hoever is currently away with Holland Under-17s but Neco Williams has been training with the first team and is an option at right-back if Gomez is deployed centrally.

James Milner got the nod at left-back in the previous round against MK Dons while Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana also started and could return in place of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Further forward, Divock Origi is expected to come in for Salah but Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane may start with Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Rhian Brewster options off the bench.

Nathaniel Clyne is still a long-term absentee while Xherdan Shaqiri is working his way back to full fitness but is unlikely to feature here.
