Kate in pride of place next to Queen as Meghan stands by Sophie at Remembrance service

KATE, the Duchess of Cambridge, solemnly stood next to Queen Elizabeth II on the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office building as Prince William laid a wreath on the Cenotaph this morning.

Kate paid her respects to those who died in line of duty today, taking part in the somber ceremony of Remembrance Sunday in Whitehall. Mother-of-three Kate looked solemn in a black coat with a red poppy pinned on her lapel.

Kate stood on the same balcony with Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and the Queen.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, was, on the other hand, standing next to Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, Princess Anne’s husband, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The decision to have Kate attending the ceremony next to the Queen and Meghan alongside Sophie Wessex should not be seen as a “slight” against Meghan but goes down to the royal protocol and the little space available on the small balconies, experts said.

The managing editor of Majesty Magazine, Joe Little, explained there is “no slight intended” behind the decision of placing Meghan far from the Queen, Camilla and Kate.

He said: “She was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order.

“There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out [first]with his wife.

As the ceremony was starting, the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted speaking with the monarch, who smiled and nodded.

They then joined the country in a respectful two-minute silence when the Big Ben chimed at 11am.

After the solemn moment, the Duchess of Cambridge and Queen-to-be watched on as Prince Charles led the country in the celebration of the fallen.

The Prince of Wales laid a splendid wreath of red poppies on the Cenotaph before performing the military salute as a sign of respect.

The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, followed, also laying their wreaths on the Cenotaph.

During the ceremony, the Queen looked particularly emotional, and was spotted wiping away a tear.

This is the second time in two days Kate has taken part in an official event alongside with her husband William, Prince Harry and Meghan.

Yesterday, the royal Fab Four were among the many members of the Royal Family to attend the annual Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

But the couples sat far from each other, on two different rows, because of their different rankings.

Before yesterday, Kate, William, Harry and Meghan hadn’t been seen together at a royal engagement since June, when they all celebrated the Queen’s official birthday at Trooping the Colour.

Following the broadcasting of the ITV documentary where Prince Harry said he and his brother are “on a different path”, the Duchess of Cambridge has said to be “genuinely concerned” for the Sussexes, according to a source.

The source told US Weekly Kate “hates to see” Meghan and Harry “so miserable”.

However, the source added, “while Kate’s concerned about Harry and Meghan’s well-being, she tries to stay out of the drama.”

They further said: “[She] hopes William and Harry will eventually heal the rift and let bygones be bygones.”
