Andre Gomes suffered a fracture dislocation on his ankle against Tottenham on Sunday.

Andre Gomes could play again this season after successfully undergoing an operation on his ankle, says Everton boss Marco Silva.

The Everton midfielder suffered a fracture dislocation during his side’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Sunday after Son Heung-min fouled him from behind.

The cynical tackle caused Gomes to tumble into Serge Aurier, who bundled on top of the player’s ankle.

Son cried and Aurier prayed as the Portuguese was stretchered off the pitch and taken straight to hospital, where he underwent surgery.

And Silva has now revealed the Goodison Park favourite could in fact be back playing again this season after his successful operation.

“It is not easy for us to give a sure date about when he will return,” Silva said.

“It is possible we will see Andre playing again this season.”

The Portuguese tactician also opened up about the touching message Gomes received from Son following the incident.

“Andre received a text message from Son. It was a tougher moment for Andre than anyone else,” Silva added.

“But for the two players – Son and Aurier – it was tough as well.”

Son also seemingly apologised down the camera lens to Gomes after scoring against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday evening as he begins to recover from the guilt he felt after the challenge.

“I text him before I flew [to Belgrade on Tuesday]and he texted me back,” Son said.

“I still feel really, really bad about this. I feel really sorry. Football is a sport where something [like this]can happen; nobody wants to see this situation.

“I’m so sad this happened and that I was involved with this situation. It’s been a really, really tough few days.

“I just texted him to say: ‘Best wishes to you, I’m really sorry for you, your family and your teammates.’

“He texted me back probably when he got back home [after his surgery]. I don’t want to talk about it [what Gomes said]too much.”
