Conor McGregor has given his thoughts on the controversial ending of UFC 244’s main event – and he’s also called out Jorge Masvidal.

The UFC’s latest trip to Madison Square Garden was headlined by the eagerly-anticipated welterweight showdown between Masvidal and Nate Diaz.

The fight well and truly lived up to its billing, with the pair engaging in a war from the outset.

The enthralling contest, however, came to an end after the third round when the cage-side doctor deemed the cuts above and below Diaz’s right eye dangerous enough to stop the fight – which meant Masvidal won the contest and the ‘Baddest Motherf****r in the Game belt’ via TKO.

Fans in attendance at MSG disagreed and let Doctor Nitin K. Sethi and referee Dan Miragliotta know their thoughts by showering them with a chorus of boos.

One man who agrees with the stoppage is McGregor, who believes Hsu made the right call waving off the BMF title fight.

“Excellent job Greg,” McGregor tweeted in response to UFC doctor Greg Hsu’s video of himself and Diaz backstage after the fight. “Robbed of a classic there we were. Cutmen in the corner must be more assertive when a fighter must stay still.

“Between rounds 1 and 2 a crucial moment of repair was missed due to movement. Either way, solid fighting and onto the next… Me.”

And a matter of hours after reflecting on the bout, ‘The Notorious’ then campaigned for a clash with Masvidal, who has won his last three in a row.

He tweeted: “Hey @BurgerKing, could I get a 3 piece with soda and a side of chicken box please? Loads of salt and vinegar. Thanks.”

McGregor use of the phrase ‘three-piece with the soda’ was in reference to what Masvidal said after attacking Leon Edwards backstage at UFC London in March.

Like McGregor and Hsu, UFC president Dana White believes Masvidal vs Diaz should’ve been waved off, though that wasn’t his initial thought after the stoppage.

“As I just went back and talked to Nate Diaz and looked at Nate Diaz’s face, his eyebrow is literally flipping over like this,” White said. “And he has another cut right underneath it.

“The fight probably should have been stopped. Could Nate Diaz keep going?

“Did Nate Diaz want to keep going? Yes. That’s why we love Nate Diaz. But he probably shouldn’t have.”

Both Masvidal and Diaz are keen to run back their fight, but the same can’t be said for White, who said: “It doesn’t interest me right away.”
