Mitchell van Bergen said Mason Mount will eventually end up at one of Real Madrid or Barcelona in the future.
Mason Mount has shrugged off comments from Mitchell van Bergen suggesting he will leave Chelsea for Real Madrid or Barcelona in the near future.
Mount proved his talents on loan at Derby last season before being recalled for the first team this summer with club legend Frank Lampard taking charge of the Blues.
And the midfielder has gone from strength-to-strength at Stamford Bridge, helping create a new-found level of optimism around west London.
He has been joined by fellow young stars such as Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori in establishing themselves as Premier League regulars for the Blues.
Mount is one of a host of Chelsea players who have spent the first few years out on loan away from the club.
His first spell away was at Dutch Eredivisie club Vitesse where he scored an impressive 14 goals in just 30 start across all competitions.
Mount clearly left a lasting impression on former team-mate Mitchell van Bergen, who has been watching the English 20-year-old ever since.
Van Bergen recently admitted he keeps a close eye out for Chelsea results now with Mount playing regular minutes.
And the Holland Under-19s international went on to predict a move to either Barcelona or Real for Mount in the future.
Those comments didn’t go unnoticed by Mount, but he poured cold water on the transfer suggestion by insisting his sole focus is on Chelsea right now.
“I saw what Mitchell said,” Mount replied.
“I’m obviously very close to him – we had a very close bond. He’s a brilliant player.
“But my focus is on Chelsea and this is my first year, so I don’t look too far ahead.
“My focus is on the next game, that’s kind of how far I look ahead.”
Mount signed a new five-year contract at Chelsea in the summer after returning from his loan spell with Derby.
And the 20-year-old has been an ever-present for Chelsea this season, playing the fourth most minutes in the league for Lampard’s side.
