Carol Vorderman: ‘Got proof’ Countdown star left baffled by Matt Baker’s bizarre discovery

Carol Vorderman, who hosts her own show on BBC Radio Wales, was seemingly left baffled after The One Show host Matt Baker made a bizarre revelation live on the show today.

Carol Vorderman, 58, was joined by her co-host Owain Wyn Evans on BBC Radio Wales where the pair chatted to presenter Matt Baker, 41. The One Show host is currently filming in Wales ahead of the BBC programme and for Children In Need.

The Countryfile presenter stunned both Carol and her co-host when he revealed he cycled up the steepest road in the world, Harlech, north Wales.

Carol quizzed: “I have a note here that you’re going to have to ride to Flash. The highest village in the UK. Is that right and have you been there already?”

Matt replied: “Well, no. This morning we cycled up the steepest street in the world.”

She then interjected: “In the world!”

Matt said: “It was nuts, to be honest with you.”

The BBC Radio Wales DJ quizzed further: “The steepest street in the world?” before adding: “If anybody said to me the steepest street in the world, I’d say San Francisco.”

Her co-host Owain agreed: “Yes, same here.”

But The One Show host was adamant that the steepest street in the world was Harlech in Wales.

He reiterated: “No. It’s here. And we’ve got the proof. Also, Thomas who is with me has got a certificate to prove that he cycled up the steepest street in the world.”

The revelation had Carol and her co-host Owain in a fit of giggles.

Matt then added: “We were all pushing it up this hill. It was quite amazing actually. But you’ll get to see it all on The One Show on Monday night.”

His comments come after the Countryfile host is taking part in a charity event, The Rickshaw Challenge.

A team of six young people and The One Show host will take on an eight day challenge to cycle 400 miles across the UK as part of BBC’s Children in Need this year.

The route for this year’s challenge runs from Holyhead to London, starting on Friday 8 November and ending in the capital on Friday 15 November.

This year’s route will see the team ride to Flash, the highest village in the UK, and tackle the steepest street in the world in Harlech, Wales.

Elsewhere, Carol recently broke her silence on an embarrassing mishap she suffered while trying to impress Lord Alan Sugar with Ruby Wax, as the former Countdown host admitted they “had to be separated.”

The TV legend appeared alongside Ruby, 66, on Comic Relief Does The Apprentice back in 2009 and the pair were challenged to present a new toy to impress Lord Alan Sugar, 72.

However, the duo encountered difficulties when they tried to demonstrate the “sticky” device, which was covered in velcro.

Recalling the moment, Carol said Ruby “pleaded” with the business mogul to let them win the competition.

She explained to her radio co-host Owain: “Ruby being Ruby, was pleading with Alan Sugar because we had to present this toy to 100 people having canapés.

“So Ruby decided that we were going to go and beg Alan Sugar to let us win.”

I have a note here that you’re going to have to ride to Flash. The highest village in the UK. Is that right and have you been there already?
