Ben Davies delivers update on Son Heung-min’s state after Andre Gomes injury

Son Heung-min is still devastated after Andre Gomes’ shocking injury at Goodison Park.

Tottenham star Son Heung-min’s team-mates are rallying around him until he understands that Andre Gomes’ horror injury was an accident, according to Ben Davies.

Son is still “really shaken up” after Everton star Gomes suffered a fractured dislocation of his right ankle during the 1-1 draw with Spurs at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The midfielder was tripped by the South Korea international as he was running down the left flank and got his foot stuck in the turf before colliding with Serge Aurier.

The Tottenham star then broke down in tears after witnessing the aftermath of the challenge which led to him being given a red card by referee Martin Atkinson.

Son walked back to the away dressing room where he cried for an hour before leaving the ground still in tears but Davies insists the injury was an accident.

The left-back added that the entire team is trying to pick their team-mate up and help him realise that it was not his fault as he wasn’t trying to hurt Gomes.

Davies said: “He’s really shaken up.

“He’s down about what happened. I speak for everyone when I say sympathy for Gomes, I hope he’s alright.

“We will try to pick him up as much as we can. It’s tough right now.

“It’s just about making sure that he realises he didn’t go out there to hurt anyone, he thinks that people may see that in him but it’s not the case.

“It’s one of those things. There were probably three more tackles that were worse than the incident that happened.

“It’s a freak moment in football. Son can’t let himself be too down about it.

“As a group we have to pull together now.

“That’s what we said on the pitch, pulling together when times are tough. You could see how much it affected everyone in the stadium. It was a tough moment to deal with.

“It shakes you up, it really does. It doesn’t matter if it’s your team-mate or not. You can see the emotion across the pitch.

“Nobody goes on the pitch to hurt anyone, especially not somebody like Son who is a bit broken in there to deal with what has happened.

“For us, it is just hoping Andre Gomes is OK now.”
