Unai Emery’s Arsenal were beaten by Leicester on Saturday evening.
Unai Emery is confident that he has the backing of Arsenal’s board despite defeat to Leicester.
The Foxes inflicted Arsenal’s third defeat of the Premier League season with Jamie Vardy and James Maddison both scoring in a 2-0 win.
The Gunners have struggled at the start of this season with Emery under immense pressure.
But the Spaniard, who took over in 2018 following the departure of Arsene Wenger, is confident that he will be given time in charge at the Emirates.
Following the defeat, he said: “We need time and we need patience. We’ve changed a lot of players and we have young players.
“We are very ambitious with our demands and our targets. We know we need time and to be patient. We had a lot of circumstances that didn’t help us.
“The most important [thing]is to be calm and be ambitious and demand of ourselves.”
And when asked by Sky Sports if the club is calm and behind him, Emery simply responded: “Yes.”
Jose Mourinho had been linked with a role at Arsenal should Emery leave with the Portuguese boss being out of work since being sacked by Manchester United last December.
But pundit Tony Cascarino believes former Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta would be the better option.
“There are managers out there, but I said three years ago Mikel Arteta would have been the one [I picked],” Cascarino said.
“If you read about all the stuff about Arteta at Man City behind the scenes, I felt he would be a great fit for Arsenal and I think he would take it to a new direction.
“His English is far better than Emery’s and he would be a massive plus for Arsenal if they chose to make that decision. Arsenal have to be brought together. There are a very divided club from their fanbase.
“Their fanbase is totally divided; they were over Wenger, they are over Emery and they are over the players in their team. It’s where the club is.
“Some has got to convince Arsenal fans who are doubters that they’re on the right track. Unai Emery hasn’t done that.
“He hasn’t convinced Arsenal fans who don’t believe he is the right man.”
