Andre Gomes injury: Barcelona send message of support to Everton star after horror clash

Barcelona have sent Everton star Andre Gomes a message of support, after the former Catalan midfielder suffered a severe ankle injury against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Barcelona have wished their former player Andre Gomes a speedy recovery, after the Everton midfielder suffered a horrific ankle injury in the Toffees’ match against Tottenham.

Gomes had to be stretchered off the pitch at Goodison Park, after a collision with both Son Heung-Min and Serge Aurier.

Everton later confirmed that the Portugal international suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle.

Gomes will have surgery on his ankle today, and Barcelona sent the midfielder a message of support for his recovery.

“We are sorry to hear about the horrible injury of Andre Gomes,” Barcelona’s official Twitter account tweeted last night.

“We wish you a speedy recovery, and our thoughts are with you.”

Barcelona were replying to Everton’s tweet, which was giving fans on update on the injury.

The Toffees confirmed that it would provide more detail on Gomes’ injury “in due course”.

“Everton Football Club can confirm Andre Gomes will undergo surgery tomorrow [Monday November 4] after sustaining an ankle injury in today’s game with Tottenham Hotspur,” said an Everton club statement.

“Andre was stretchered from the pitch during the second half of the game and was taken straight to Aintree Hospital by ambulance accompanied by members of the Everton medical team.

“After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle.

“The club will provide further updates in due course.”

The incident occurred during Everton’s 1-1 draw with Spurs at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Gomes was tripped after a challenge from Son, and he clattered into Aurier, which ultimately caused the injury.

Son was initially booked for the tackle, but he was subsequently given a red card after the extent of the damage became clearer.

The Tottenham forward was visibly upset about the incident, and was consoled by both Everton and Spurs players on the pitch.
