Protesters await Boris Johnson ahead of visit to Bute House

A small group of protesters have gathered outside of Bute House ahead of a meeting between Boris Johnson and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

A number of pro-independence protesters and pro-Brexit protestors have reportedly gathered outside the residence of the First Minister.

Police have closed roads with a diversion around Charlotte Square for the time being with diversions in place. 

In his first visit to Scotland as Prime Minister,  Mr Johson spent the morning at Faslane Naval Base before meeting Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson. 

Mr Johnson used his visit to call for a renewal of “the ties that bind our United Kingdom” and announced £300m for projects to boost the economy in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

During the meeting, the First Minister is expected to highlight the potential damage to Scotland’s economy, insisting it will cost 100,000 jobs, plunge the economy into recession and reduce GDP by the equivalent of £2,300 per person
