A well meaning firefighter was attacked by a mother duck while saving her ducklings from a drain.
On Tuesday, the Lauderhill Fire Department in Florida responded to a call saying a group of ducklings had fallen into a storm drain on West Oakland Park Boulevard.
Engine 30’s crew came to rescue, but as their Facebook post says, ‘No good deed goes unpunished!’
In the video, Firefighter Greg Marrero was picking the four wayward ducklings out of the storm drain when one-by-one when the mother duck decided he was too close.
While holding one duckling in his hand, the duck flies towards Marrero and strikes the man in the head.
The duck manages to knock off Marrero’s glasses and, upon landing, has a small face off with the firefighter before the duckling is set down.
Giving one last quack and wing shake, the duck family waddles away.
‘Another reason why firefighting is a risky job,’ the Facebook post continued.
Firefighter Marrero was surprised, but not injured by the protective mother duck.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Levy told the Miami Herald, “You never know what you are going to encounter each day,” he said. “This is an example of what could happen.”
