C&D Auction Marts had forward 7,595 sheep comprising of 1,846 prime lambs and 5,749 cast ewes & rams at its weekly sale at Longtown on Thursday.

Prime lambs sold to £95 and 225p/kg to average 180p. The 5,749 cast ewes and rams averaged £66 overall. Heavy ewes topped at £158 for Texels, while lighter ewes peaked at £72 for Cheviots.

Messrs Craig Wilson sold 305 Store Cattle at their sale in Ayr on Thursday.

Some 158 bullocks averaged 198p or £929, while 90 heifers averaged 190p or £847. Fifty-seven Friesian bullocks averaged 134p or £625.

Top prices on the day were £1,245 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer or 219p for a pen of Limousin heifers. Bullocks peaked at £1220 for a Simmental and 234p for Limousins. Friesian bullocks topped at £860 or 158p for the same.

Harrison & Hetherington sold 47 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 243p/kg and an average of 211p (-7p), while 25 prime bullocks peaked at 233p and levelled at 207p (n/c).

In the rough ring 54 cast cows sold to £1,472 and 165p to average 135p (n/c).

There were also 824 prime lambs that sold to £100 and 207p for Texels to average 174p (n/c).

In the cast sheep section 771 ewes averaged £54 overall. Heavy ewes peaked at £100 for Suffolks and averaged £77, while light ewes peaked at £79 for Cheviots and levelled at £41.

The firm also sold 18 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 238p/kg and an average of 188p (-15p), while 28 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 222p and levelled at 193p (-8p). One prime, dairy-bred bullock sold to 156p. Seventy-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 200p and averaged 170p (-5p), while 24 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 166p and levelled at 136p (-6p).

In the rough ring 184 cast dairy cows sold to 135p to average 100p (-1p), while 69 cast beef cows peaked at 175p to average 128p (-5p). Fourteen cast bulls were up to 146p and averaged 122p (+10p).

There were also 1,938 prime lambs that sold to £104 and 247p to average 178p (-3p).

In the cast sheep ring this week 162 heavy ewes sold to £105 for Texels and averaged £71 (-£7), while 153 light ewes peaked at £87 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £32 (-£15).

Messrs Craig Wilson sold 1,540 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £90 per head on four separate occasions and 198p per kg to average 172p (-2p). There was also 341 cast sheep which sold to a top of £137 for heavy Texels. Mules were up to £76 and light ewes peaked at £55 for Blackfaces.
