A 12-year-old boy has died in hospital two days after being rescued from the River Tay.
The schoolboy, who came from the Glasgow area, got into difficulties when playing watersports on the river near Stanley on Sunday, 28 July.
Police, fire crews, water rescue teams and an air ambulance all raced to the scene in an attempt to save the youngster.
The boy was reportedly resuscitated on the beach before being flown to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for treatment.
But Police Scotland confirmed he passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland’s Tayside division said: “Police Scotland can confirm that sadly the 12-year-old who got into difficulties in the River Tay near Stanley on Sunday, 28 July has died in hospital in the early hours of this morning.
