With torrential rain pouring down, Tottenham Hotspur had to postpone a planned signing session with supporters who had turned up to watch them train in Shanghai.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in China, as they go about their pre-season preparation ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
The club are expecting to hold a separate session instead on Thursday to make up for any disappointment.
After Spurs left the training facilities, huge puddles were noticeable in a number of areas across the field, with Manchester United due at the same venue later on Wednesday afternoon.
‘Hopefully not,’ said Pochettino when asked if he was anticipating problems.
‘Hopefully the weather and the pitch will be good to play and we can share a great moment with our fans here in Shanghai.
It’s crazy, we were waiting in Singapore for the storm to come but it never game. It’s unbelievable here – it rained so fast and hard.
‘It was very good, helpful for the players at the end of the session. It didn’t change our minds about how happy we are to be here with our fans and with the possibility to play a tough game.’
Spurs return to action on Thursday when they go up against Premier League rivals United at the city’s Hongkou Football Stadium.
The two sides are competing in the International Champions Cup, with kick-off scheduled for 12.30 UK time.
