Tottenham supporters have expressed their disappointment over the club’s failure to sign Paulo Dybala on deadline day, and fans of other clubs have been happy to stick the knife in on Twitter.
Sportsmail understands Spurs’ attempts to sign Juventus forward Paulo Dybala have collapsed because they were fearful of not being able to find a replacement.
The north London club were looking to complete a stunning late deal for the Argentine international but negotiations have been called off.
Juventus are the ones who have abandoned the deal after deciding to keep hold of one of their prized assets because they believe there is a lack of alternatives of suitable quality and value.
One person said: ‘Wow @SpursOfficial you have officially pulled off Classic Spurs. Almost won the champions League and Almost signed Dybala. Club on the rise said No one. Must Be squeaky Bum time for Ryan Sessegnon too!’
Mauricio Pochettino will now be forced to look elsewhere for reinforcements with time running out in the transfer window.
Spurs are however close to agreeing a deal to sign Real Betis attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and Fulham starlet Sessegnon.
In response to the collapse of Dybals’s move, another fan tweeted a picture of manager Mauricio Pochettino posing for a photo with an anonymous new signing accompanied by the caption: ‘When Tottenham sign Dybala with no image rights’.
The post refers to Dybala’s proposed move to United which fell through because the Argentine’s agent demanded a £15million cut from the deal and exclusive image rights.
One person even tweeted a GIF of a burning house along with the caption: ‘All #thfc supporters right now, hearing Dybala deal is pretty much off. #DeadlineDay’.
