Pepe signing won’t end Arsenal’s £60m pursuit of winger

Arsenal could still make another offer for Wilfried Zaha despite landing Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, according to a report.

The Gunners have won the race to sign the Ivorian winger – despite only paying the Ligue 1 side a bargain £20m up front.

Pepe is thought to have agreed a five-year deal at Arsenal worth an estimated £130,000 a week, and will form a new look attacking partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette this season.

With the remaining £52m due to be paid to Lille in installments over the next five years, Arsenal are expected to use the money ‘saved’ by completing deals for up to two more players before the window shuts.

According to a shock report from i News, the signing of Pepe has not ended the Gunners’ pursuit of Palace star Zaha this summer.

The Gunners had a reported £40million bid for Zaha rejected earlier in the summer with  saying Arsenal wanted to pay the fee over five years while asking for ‘a hefty discount’ if they managed to reimburse Crystal Palace early.

Palace reportedly value their prized asset at nearer the £80million mark and it was little wonder to see their initial offer dismissed out of the hand by the Eagles, despite a plea from the Ivory Coast forward’s brother.

The Gunners though refused to give up and reportedly offered up to three players in part-exchange for the Ivory Coast international winger.

The latest report places Zaha’s price tag at around £60million.
