Dejan Lovren’s potential move from Liverpool to Roma is set to fall through, according to a report.
The Croatia defender was left out of Liverpool’s squad for Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea, with the club putting his absence down to illness.
But widespread reports claim Liverpool are discussing with Roma a £15million deal that would see Lovren end his career at Anfield after five years.
Lovren is Jurgen Klopp’s fourth-choice centre-back and failed to make the bench on Friday night when Liverpool began their Premier League season at home against Norwich.
However, Football Insider claims that Roma are ‘only willing to sign the defender on loan’ with an option to buy, which is likely to scupper any exit.
A ‘Liverpool source’ has told the website that the club will only let Lovren leave if it is on a permanent basis.
The report adds that the Serie A side are ‘hoping they can reach a compromise’ with Liverpool, otherwise they will have to move on to other targets.
