The Mercury Music Prize nominees were released this week, with Foals, The 1975, and IDLES among the nominees.

Hotly tipped by the bookies, too, is Dave, who has been nominated for hit hit album Psychodrama that came out earlier this year.

You may remember the rapper from his appearance at Glastonbury where teenager Alex Mann was brought on stage to perform on of Dave’s most popular songs, Thiago Silva, with him.

Although he’s already a big name, if he is named as the winner on 19 September, it’s certain that Dave will be a star.

At 3/1 at Coral, there’s every chance. Here’s everything you need to know about the rising star.

David Orobosa Omoregie was born June 5 1998, making him 21 years old as of this month.

He was born in Brixton, and grew up in Streatham and the surrounding area before studying sound design and politics at De Montfort University in Leicester.

His beginnings in the music industry started in a relatively DIY way, with him appearing on YouTube channels and releasing mixtape before making it on to Fire In the Booth in 2016.

This was right before the release of Thiago Silva, which peaked at number seven on the UK R&B charts and 36 in the country overall.

Psychodrama came out in March, and reached number one, with his single Funky Friday also achieving the top spot.

As well as rapping, Dave (sometimes known as Santan Dave) is proficient at playing the piano, and he will be acting in the Netflix iteration of Top Boy later in the year.

He counts Drake, Stormzy, and Raheem Sterling as mates, too. Is there anything he can’t do?!
