Victor Lindelof reacts to Manchester United’s £80m transfer move for Harry Maguire

Victor Lindelof has welcomed the potential arrival of Harry Maguire at Manchester United.

The Red Devils have made Leicester City and England defender Maguire their top target this summer and are ready to pay a world-record £80million to secure his services.

Maguire’s arrival at Old Trafford could spell bad news for a number of the club’s current defenders but Lindelof is not concerned and says he ‘loves’ the competition that new signings bring.

‘I like the competition,’ Lindelof told ESPN FC when asked about Manchester United’s pursuit of Maguire. ‘I love it, actually.

‘I think it’s great for a club to have that competition. If you have good players in your position you have to work hard every day, especially in training, and that helps a team to go to the next level as well.

‘For me it’s perfect. I like it. I think everyone at this club wants to be at the highest level.

‘I’m very good friends with them all. In training we compete and then off the pitch we are friends. That’s how it should be.’

Lindelof is one of a number of Manchester United players who have been linked with moves this summer. Barcelona were said to be impressed by his performances last season.

But unlike team-mates Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku, Lindelof has quashed speculation he could leave during the summer transfer window.

‘I’m not the kind of person who thinks about that,’ he added.

‘I’m here, I’m very happy here. That’s my focus. Manchester United is my club. I represent this club with great honour.’

Lindelof, who arrived at the Theatre of Dreams from Benfica in 2017, made 40 appearances for United last season and was one of the club’s most consistent players.

He could not prevent the Red Devils from missing out on the Champions League, however, with the club finishing sixth in the Premier League after a dismal campaign.
