CAROLE Middleton became a mother figure to Prince William whilst he dated her daughter according to a leading royal expert.

The claim was made by NBC royal correspondent Ashley Pearson in a new documentary for the channel. William and Kate met at St Andrew’s University in 2001. They began dating two years later in 2003.

Speaking on NBC documentary ‘Brothers In Arms’ Ms Pearson explained how close William came to Kate’s mother.

She said: “He would lie on the couch with his head in the lap of Mrs Middleton.”

He also said William became close to Kate’s father, and would chat to him for “hours” after dinner.

Prince William’s own mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a Paris car crash when he was just 15 years old.

According to Ms Pearson the close Middleton family bond was one of the things that attracted him to Kate.

She said: “Talking to a royal insider several years ago, she told me one of the reasons William fell in love with Kate Middleton from the very beginning was because of her family and her close relationship with her siblings and parents.

“As much as William fell in love with Kate he definitely fell in love with the Middleton family at the same time.

“He loved the way Kate was very friendly and playful with her brother James or her sister Pippa.

“Feeling part of that close, tight-knit, very British family was the first time in his life that he’d had that experience and for William it was entirely intoxicating.”

In 2011 Kate and William got married in Westminster Abbey in front of a global audience of many millions.

The couple have three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Carole Middleton was working as a stewardess when she met her future husband, Michael Middleton.

The couple went on to found the successful children’s entertainment company Party Pieces.
