GRACE KELLY’s grandson, Louis Ducreut, married his sweetheart Marie Chevallier in a royal ceremony in Monaco this morning and the groom has let slip a surprising detail about his bride’s dress.
The 26-year-old is the nephew of Monaco’s Prince Albert II, the reigning sovereign of the tiny country, and the only son of Grace’s third child, Princess Stephanie. Louis and his fiancee tied the knot in Monaco’s Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate before hosting a star-studded reception in an event tipped as the royal wedding of the year. As any nervous bride will know, trying to keep the identity of her gown under wraps in the run up to the big day is an important tradition but it seems Louis already knows a key detail.
In an interview with HelloMonaco he revealed Marie chose his younger sister Pauline Ducruet to design her wedding dress.
He explained how Pauline, 25, was “skeptical” about Marie at first and “a little bit distant” when Louis introduced the two ladies.
He said: “But finally she liked her and she even designed the wedding dress that Marie will wear for the ceremony in the cathedral.”
He described being in love as “feeling good with somebody who is on the same wavelength as you”.
Louis, 15th in line to the Monaguesque throne, does not hold a royal title.
He met Marie, who is believed to be 25, while studying for a bachelor’s degree in sports management at Western Carolina University and they graduated together.
He works as a recruiter for the state’s national football team AS Monaco and also assists Monaco’s vice president Oleg Petrov.
Marie, who grew up in Nice, is employed as a banqueting and convention coordinator at a palace in Monaco.
Six decades after Prince Rainier III and Grace’s wedding in 1956, the royal family’s newest couple are set to follow in their footsteps by choosing the same cathedral for their religious ceremony.
Marie is expected to keep with tradition by travelling to the portside Church of Saint Devota where she will lay her wedding bouquet in honour of Monaco’s patron.
While Grace had died by the time Louis was born, he enjoyed a close relationship with his grandfather Rainier until his death in 2005.
Louis and Marie were married in a civil ceremony on Friday and then held their religious ceremony on Saturday.
