Quakes to send Godoy to Nashville next year

Nashville SC, preparing to make its MLS debut in 2020, acquired defensive midfielder Anibal Godoy from the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, with the deal effective on Jan. 1.

Nashville sent $650,000 of general allocation money to the Quakes.

Godoy, 29, will finish the season with San Jose, where he has played since 2015, starting 97 of his 99 games. He has five goals and seven assists in his MLS career.

“There’s so many reasons that we should all be not only as staff, technical and front office, but as fans as well, be absolutely delighted that we’ve got a player of this caliber coming into a brand-new group,” Nashville head coach Gary Smith said in a statement.

Godoy, expected to return soon from an abdomen injury, has 13 starts this season.

He has 97 caps on the Panama National Team, although he missed the 2019 Gold Cup last month because of injury.
