Peaky Blinders will return to BBC One at the end of this month with season five of the hit crime drama. The series follows the Shelby family as they navigate crime and power – but could you imagine the series without Aunt Polly? Actor Helen McCrory revealed to Express.co.uk about how she almost left the hit series.
Peaky Blinders has been a big hit for the BBC since is began back in 2013.
The gangster series stars a number of talented actors in the lead roles, including Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby and Paul Anderson as Arthur Shelby.
Having such a highly sought-after cast means that it can be difficult as the job offers come flooding in as they get increasingly famous.
Recently the actor who plays Aunt Polly, Helen McCrory revealed that she had to make a decision to turn down another role to remain in the show.

She explained her conundrum to Express.co.uk and other media at a season five press junket.
When asked if she wanted to keep playing the character, she said: “I’ve had a weekend of considering just this.
“I had a wonderful offer of another thing by one of the people I think is the most talented people.
“And I said no and came back to this because I feel it’s given me so much.”
McCrory first began playing the character almost eight years ago when she was offered the part by the BBC.

She added about her decision to stay: “You see it through to the end if somebody wants to, you don’t just go ‘thank you,’
“And also I want to see it through to the end.”
The actor is well known for starring in a number of top quality television dramas like MotherFatherSon and Penny Dreadful.
She also played Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and Cherie Blair in The Queen.

She revealed the series is bigger than Harry Potter was in her career, adding that “I’ve never had anything like the Peaky Blinders effect.”
Steven Knight also spoke at the junket about the difficulty of aligning actors’ schedules for the series as they get more famous.
He revealed: “It is an issue – we are happy to allow people to do what they want.
“So we have to find the sweet spot where everyone is around.”
Fans of show will be pleased that McCrory decided to stay on in the series.

McCrory also revealed she hopes Polly will get more involved in the business side of things in the coming seasons.
She revealed: “You will always be slightly advisory until you are the other person doing the counter-signature.
“You might feel as powerful, you might be as powerful but on paper you’re not. I want belts and braces.”
