Nicola Sturgeon slated over SNP’s ‘interference’ in Brexit talks – ‘Focus on your job’

NICOLA STURGEON came under fire for the SNP’s “interfering” with the Brexit talks and her demands for independence when she should “focus on the job she is supposed to be doing”.

Nicola Sturgeon has kept a combative stance against Brexit since the referendum in 2016, claiming Scotland would face terrible economic repercussions. The First Minister has also maintained a new referendum on independence would help the SNP Government fend off the impact of leaving the European Union. Brexit Party MEP Louis Stedman-Bryce blasted Ms Sturgeon for her party’s ongoing “interference” with the Brexit process as demanded she “focus” on the needs of the Scottish people.

Speaking on BrexBox, Mr Stedman-Bryce said: “My friend Nicola, she has been at it again. She is running around, obviously we’ve got this thing now where they are approaching the Scottish courts to try and stop Boris proroguing Parliament.

“I just wish she would spend more time running the country and Scotland. We’ve got over 1 million people in Scotland that voted to leave, we’ve voted 900,000 who voted for the SNP – some would argue I have a stronger mandate than the SNP.”

The Brexit Party MEP for Scotland continued: “Just to give you an understanding of how bad things are up there, there’s 46 percent of children in her own constituency who are living in poverty.

“Scotland has just been named the drugs death capital of Europe – I think that’s disgusting.”

Mr Stedman-Bryce added: “The thought of the SNP led by Nicola Sturgeon pushing towards independence is just terrifying and I absolutely just wish she would focus on the job she is supposed to be doing rather than interfering in Brexit all the time.”

Figures released by Glasgow City Council in May showed 46 percent of children living in the Southside Central constituency Ms Sturgeon represents now live in poverty.

The latest report revealed more than a quarter of children living in eight of Scotland’s 32 local authorities are growing up poor.

The SNP Government has pledged to introduce a new family income supplement to help families facing economic difficulties.

Writing to Boris Johnson after he became Prime Minister on Wednesday, Ms Sturgeon insisted it is now “essential” the people of Scotland get an “alternative option” to Brexit.

The First Minister demanded Mr Johnson “change course immediately” to keep the Scottish people from facing “lasting harm.”

The SNP leader said: “I urge you to study this analysis closely so that you understand the implications for Scotland of the policy you are pursuing on Brexit and why it is therefore imperative that you change course immediately to avoid causing lasting harm to the people of Scotland.

“However, given your public comments about leaving the EU on 31 October with or without a deal, ‘come what may’ and ‘do or die’, it is now – more than ever – essential that in Scotland we have an alternative option.”

Ms Sturgeon added: “In line with the democratic mandate given to us in 2016, the Scottish government will continue to make preparations to give people in Scotland the choice of becoming an independent country.”

The Scottish leader earlier this year announced she aimed at securing a new independence referendum for Scotland in the second half of 2020.

Speaking shortly after meeting the Queen, Mr Johsnson appealed to the devolved nations to work together with Westminster to enjoy the benefits of Brexit.

Mr Johnson said: “It is time we unleashed the productive power not just of London and the South East, but of every corner of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“The awesome foursome that are incarnated in that red, white, and blue flag – who together are so much more than the sum of their parts, and whose brand and political personality is admired and even loved around the world.”
