MOHAMED SALAH has fired back at Pep Guradiola, as the Manchester City boss compared winning the Champions League to a trip to the casino.
Liverpool and Manchester City are set to push each other all the way again this season, as they bid to out muscle their way to the Premier League title.
Last season they created one of the most relentless title races in history, with the champions eventually coming out on top on the final day against Brighton.
Guardiola was initially brought in to help continue City’s dominance in England but the ultimate ambition has always been to win their first ever Champions League.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss recently said that he is willing to sacrifice European glory for domestic success.
“The Champions League is an important tournament, difficult to win,” he said.
“But I don’t want to go to the casino and gamble everything I have in my pocket for seven games. I don’t want it.”
Those comments have prompted a response from Salah, who would take continental success over winning the Premier League whenever given the chance.
“Honestly, I didn’t know that he [Guardiola] said that, but I think if you give him a choice to choose which one, he would choose the Champions League,” Salah told CNN.
“That’s my opinion. I’m not talking about him, but my opinion. It’s the biggest competition in football, so everyone wants to win it.
“Every coach, every player wants to win it, dreams of winning it.
“So of course the Premier League also is something big, but still the Champions League is the biggest competition.”
Salah scored from the spot in Madrid back in June as Liverpool won their sixth European Cup at the Wanda Metropolitano by beating Tottenham 2-0.
The Reds flew back to Merseyside the following morning where they continued celebrations in front of 750,000 supporters.
“Honestly, it was great, ” Salah added on the Champions League success.
“It’s a dream for everyone, the city, the players, to win a Champions League is something so great and something very big.
“So everyone was having that special moment. I was feeling like a kid whose dream comes true.”
