Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry) has been a big part of Holby City since his arrival in October 2010.
He joined as a Director of Surgery and has gradually made his way up to become the CEO and Deputy Clinical Lead at Holby City Hospital.
The character has also made several guest appearances in Casualty throughout the last nine years.
He now looks set to leave the hospital after forming a close bond with his grandson Oskar, but will he be coming back?
The good news is that it will only be a temporary exit for Hanssen and he will return at a later date.
It’s not yet known how long he will be away from the hospital, but fans can be safe in the knowledge that he isn’t gone for good.
The character has left the hospital before in 2013 to return to Sweden to meet his son Fredrik and his new grandson.
Actor Guy Henry had decided to leave the medical drama after three years, but then in October 2014 it was announced that he would be rejoining the cast.
The character made a return to the hospital in 2015 to take back his role as CEO, replacing Guy Self (John Michie) who had resigned from the position.
Holby City continues at 20.00 on Tuesday 13 August on BBC One.
