Eight men have been charged over a brawl inside a Sydney immigration detention centre that left several people in hospital.
The fight broke out at the Villawood facility on March 28 and involved about 15 detainees.
It’s alleged staff found three improvised sharp-edged weapons immediately after the incident, prompting an investigation by federal police.
Officers on Tuesday and Wednesday arrested eight men, aged between 22 and 36, all of them are foreign nationals, and they were charged with affray.
One of them was also charged with harming a public official who was trying to break up the fight.
Four of the men remain behind bars, while the others have been returned to Villawood detention centre, ahead of another court appearance on August 20.
