Dejan Lovren on verge of £15m Liverpool exit after Roma open talks

Dejan Lovren is on the verge of a Liverpool exit after talks were opened with Roma.

Jurgen Klopp is willing to cash in on the centre-back this summer, with a bid of £15million expected to be enough to land the Croatia international.

Roma’s Serie A rivals AC Milan were thought to be the frontrunners at the beginning of the transfer window but Paulo Fonseca’s side are now confident of completing a move.

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue, according to Sky Sports, with the two sides haggling over a fee.

Lovren was left on the bench in Liverpool’s Champions League final win over Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season and he recognises he is fourth choice behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

As a result, he is keen to leave Anfield in pursuit of first-team football and Roma are keen to bring him to Italy.

Should the former Southampton man leave, Liverpool may be left somewhat short of defensive options.

Central midfielder Fabinho would likely be considered to be the fourth-choice centre-half, with Gomez also expected to provide cover to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

With James Milner providing backup to Andy Robertson at left-back, a string of defensive injuries could leave the squad stretched thin.
