Billy Joe Saunders wants to target huge fights with Gennady Golovkin and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez now he has signed with Matchroom Boxing, but promoter Eddie Hearn has other names in mind.

Saunders (28-0), who holds the WBO super middleweight title, is eyeing up big-money bouts with world class fighters at middleweight or super middleweight after announcing his new promotional deal on Tuesday morning.

Canelo and Golovkin represent the biggest names in either division, but Hearn is also keen to put together all-British bouts for the 29-year-old.

The Matchroom boss also has WBA super middleweight champ Callum Smith in his stable and sees him as a good opponent for Saunders, while a rematch with Chris Eubank Jr is on the radar as well.

‘He wants these big fights at this stage of his career and it’s up to us to deliver those fights,’ Hearn told Boxing Social.

‘Billy Joe, like Demetrius Andrade, Callum Smith are fighters that people don’t necessarily queue up to fight. You have to make those fights financially valuable to the opponent because they’re very good fighters. So they might end up fighting each other.

‘Callum Smith vs Billy Joe Saunders has been discussed. That’s a great domestic fight that we’re going to look at. Demetrius Andrade vs Billy Joe Saunders, that fight was supposed to happen previously.

‘Then you look at the other fighters, Gennady Golovkin, Canelo, Daniel Jacobs, so many opportunities across the weight classes.

‘I really still like the Chris Eubank rematch, commercially, I think it’s a great fight. I think Billy Joe schools him but I think the build up, the anticipation, the grudge, I like that fight, I would be willing to make that fight next.

‘Eubank is looking for opponents, if they want, they can come straight into that fight.’

Saunders will be open to whatever the biggest fights are for him, but the undefeated star at two names on his mind specifically, Golovkin and Canelo.

‘This move is going to benefit me massively,’ said Saunders. ‘Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing can put me right out on the branch for those big fights.

‘I’m on Golovkin and Canelo’s turf. I’ve made this move to make them fights because I’m sick of hearing their bulls*** excuses. Those fights make financial sense and they make sense because we’re on the same network.

‘I will go where the big fights are and I can fluctuate between middle and super-middle. If the big fights are at middleweight then I’ll have them at middle.

‘If they’re at super-middleweight then I’ll have them at super. I’m a world Champion at super-middle so if anyone wants to come and try to win a belt then I’ve got one of the most recognised belts out there and I’m open to big offers.

‘I’m ready to go and I’m hoping to be out at the end of October or early November.’

Hearn confirmed that likely time frame for Saunders, adding that his next fight could either be in the US or in the UK.
