  • PSG doctors have warned that Neymar’s foot injury could be serious
  • PSG’s medical staff believe his injury has not been properly treated
  • Philippe Coutinho’s agent has reportedly held transfer talks with Barcelona
  • Barcelona need to find a different player to offer PSG in exchange for Neymar

Pay cut for Neymar

Neymar will accept a drastic pay cut to complete a return to Barcelona.

That’s according to BBC Radio 5 Live’s Guillem Balague, who says the Brazilian will happily take home £406k per week instead of his current £671k weekly wage.

“The player is happy to reduce his wages from 38 million euros net to 23 million euros net,” said Balague. “It is an interesting situation at Barcelona. They feel they have to try really hard to get him back.

“Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez want him back but also the president Josep Maria Bartomeu has two more years in his mandate and he wants to leave a big legacy. Can you imagine all those players that have been mentioned and Neymar as well?”

#1 Gerard Pique

Gerard Pique is the best centre back in the world.

That’s according to former Barcelona and Chelsea winger Pedro, who hit back at false claims he declared Sergio Ramos and Virgil van Dijk as the best in the world.

He wrote on Instagram: ‘I want to explain to all my supporters that on yesterday’s press conference I did not said that Ramos and Van Dijk are the two best centre back in the world, as several media has said.

“If you are asking about who is the best, if I have to select only one I would say Piqué because I think he is the best active nowadays. The best centre-back I’ve ever played with is Puyol and the one I’ve liked the most.”

Hello everyone, I want to explain to all my supporters that on yesterday’s press conference I did not said that Ramos and Van Dijk are he two best centre-back in the world, as several media has said. I answered to the question of what differences I see between them, so I talked about their skills and said that both of them are in good shape. But if you are asking about who is the best, if I have to select only one I would say Piqué because I think he is the best active nowadays. The best centre-back I’ve ever played with is Puyol and the one I’ve liked the most. I want to explain that because there are a lot of commentaries about this issue and does not fit to what I really said. Now it’s time to focus on tonights’ game.

Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov has warned against bringing Neymar back to the Nou Camp.

Stoichkov believes the Brazilian would be “a bomb inside the locker room” if the Catalan giants were to beat their rivals Real Madrid to his signature.

“Barcelona does not need Neymar,” the 53-year-old told Univision. “He has no place because there are already important players. There is Dembele, Griezmann, Suarez and Messi.

“Where is he going to play? He would be a bomb inside the locker room. For my part, I don’t want him to come back.”

Lionel Messi out of opener

Lionel Messi will miss Barcelona’s opener against Athletic Bilbao on Friday night.

The Spanish champions get the La Liga campaign underway with a trip to the San Mames Stadium – but they’ll have to do it without their Argentine talisman.

Messi was left out of the squad for the trip to Bilbao after failing to fully recover from a calf injury picked up in training.

“We never like to risk any players and much less someone like Leo,” Valverde said. “He still hasn’t returned to training with the team and while we are happy with his progress, individual training is very different to playing a match. We are going to wait and see.”

‘He belongs to PSG’

Ernesto Valverde is remaining tight-lipped about Barcelona’s pursuit of Neymar.

“I’m outside all these matters and focusing on coaching the team, I have enough to think about ahead of the game without thinking about players from other teams,” Valverde said.

“We need to respect players that play for other clubs, he belongs to Paris Saint-Germain right now so no, I have nothing to comment on right now.”

Valverde did have something to say about midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who is reportedly to be used as a makeweight to sign Neymar from PSG.

“He’s a very important player for us, he has been for my two years here. I hope he will continue doing so.”

No advancement in Neymar deal

No significant progress has been made regarding Neymar’s future at the Parc des Princes.

That’s according to PSG sporting director Leonardo, who confirmed that discussions about Neymar had taken place.

“As you know, there have been discussions over his future,” Leonardo told RMC Sport. “However, nothing has advanced.”

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claims the French champions rejected bids from Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent weeks.

Quartet Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez were reportedly being offered as part of the deal.

Phil would have improved Arsenal

Philippe Coutinho would have improved Arsenal but the Gunners were never likely to land the Barcelona ace, Nigel Winterburn claims.

Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and even Liverpool were linked with a move for the 27-year-old, who has struggled to find form at Barcelona after quitting Anfield in January 2017.

“I don’t consider Arsenal missing out on Coutinho as a blow because I don’t think that it was ever realistic,” he told SportingBet.

“Some of the figures that were bandied about, I’ve read that the deal could be worth up to £40 million, would have been an incredible investment from Arsenal for a loan deal and something that just cannot happen.

“He’s a terrific player, I think he would enhance most squads, but I don’t see it as a missed opportunity, because I was never convinced it was an option.”

Victor Lindelof plan

Manchester United are set to offer Victor Lindelof a huge new contract after him impressive displays at Old Trafford.

The Sweden international impressed last season after initially struggling following his arrival in 2017.

And Lindelof is set to be rewarded with a double-your-money contract worth a staggering £46.8million after summer interest from Barcelona.

The centre-back’s current contract has two years left to run.

Lindelof currently earns £75,000-a-week and Manchester United have an option to extend for an extra 12 months.

Neymar medical concerns

PSG doctors have warned that Neymar’s foot injury could be more serious than previously thought.

That’s according to French newspaper Le Parisien, who claim PSG’s medical staff believe his injury has not been properly treated and could potentially sideline him for several months.

The 27-year-old has been plagued by injury to his fifth metatarsal over the past 18 months – and Le Parisien suggest that some believe the treatment he received before the 2018 World Cup was not sufficient.

Spanish publication AS claim the PSG star may have pseudarthrosis, which could require a bone graft to fully correct.

Philippe Coutinho talks

Philippe Coutinho’s agent has reportedly held transfer talks with Barcelona to sort out the future of his client.

Giuliano Bertolucci has been in Catalonia this week to speak to the club about a potential exit, according to Goal.

The report states that he flew straight from France after discussions with Paris Saint-Germain.

There is a growing feeling that Barcelona could offer Coutinho as part of a potential swap deal to land Neymar.

Bayern Munich are also interested in a potential loan with an option to buy, yet there is still no concrete suggestion as to where Coutinho will end up come September 2, which is when the deadline closes in Spain.

Different player needed…

Barcelona need to find a different player to offer PSG in exchange for Neymar, after the two clubs disagreed over Nelson Semedo’s inclusion in the deal.

That’s according to French football insider Julien Laurens.

The two clubs have apparently agreed to trade Philippe Coutinho, but PSG are demanding that Barca also give up €120million [£110m] as well as Nelson Semedo.

However, Barca are apparently unwilling to part with right-back Semedo, and are also reluctant to give up £110m – instead offering between £55m and £73m.

And Laurens believes that – with Neymar wanting to return to Barca – all they have to do is find a different player to exchange.

Neymar worried

Neymar is worried Barcelona will end their quest to clinch his signature.

That’s reportedly what super-agent Pini Zahavi has told Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who is desperate to secure the 27-year-old’s signature.

Zahavi, who brokered Neymar’s £200million move in 2017, has again been involved as Neymar seeks a move away from the Parc des Princes.

Mundo Deportivo journalist Francesc Aguilar tweeted: “Pini Zahavi has convinced Florentino that Neymar is beginning to worry about the rejection of his signing among Barcelona, which is getting bigger every day.”

The Brazilian’s preference is to re-join Barcelona but if they are unable to negotiate a deal with PSG – Real Madrid could become a tempting option.
