MADRID, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) — FC Barcelona have suffered an injury setback just five days before the start of the new La Liga season, with goalkeeper Norberto Neto having broken a bone in his wrist.
Neto suffered the injury in Barcelona’s final training session before their pre-season friendly against Napoli.
The keeper, who arrived at the La Liga champions from Valencia over the summer, will have further tests on Monday, but it appears he will need an operation that is likely to keep him out of action until at least the end of September.
Neto’s injury means that 20-year-old Inaki Pena will be on the bench when Barca start the season away to Athletic Bilbao on Friday night. Pena was on the bench 14 times last season but never made his first team debut.
Meanwhile, Lionel Messi also looks likely to miss the trip to the San Mames Stadium due to a calf injury he suffered a fortnight ago.
