Antoine Griezmann’s switch to Barcelona could be cancelled by La Liga

Antoine Griezmann is facing the unusual prospect of seeing his switch to Barcelona cancelled, according to La Liga’s president Javier Tebas.

Barcelona sealed the signing of Griezmann from Atletico Madrid after a long-running transfer saga between the clubs.

Griezmann’s 107million release clause was activated by Barcelona on July 12, after the figure dropped from £178m on July 1.

Atletico, though, have now lodged a complaint to La Liga, alleging Barcelona’s agreement with Griezmann was in place before his his release clause became active.

As a result, Atletico claim they are owed more money and La Liga boss Tebas explained Griezmann’s move could be scrapped.

‘It is possible to block a player’s transfer,’ Tebas told Onda Cero.

‘La Liga will have to decide what course of action to take.’

Atletico complained to La Liga last summer about Barcelona’s attempts to sign Griezmann, an offer the Frenchman eventually rejected.

Griezmann has already played for Barcelona, featuring in their 2-1 loss to Chelsea in a pre-season game.

Atletico claim Barcelona re-opened talks with Griezmann in March.

‘[Atletico] submitted a complaint and put in doubt whether we should pass Griezmann’s licence to Barcelona,’ Tebas continued.

‘There’s a process that has been put in motion and those overseeing it will have to come to resolve the case.’
