A TESCO customer has blasted the supermarket chain after she claimed she was served a £4.30 all-day breakfast which has been described as “worse than prison food”.
Claire Thomson ordered two breakfasts when she visited a Tesco store in Glasgow.
She said although a beautifully presented breakfast was advertised on the menu – she received meagre portions of very insipid-looking food.
The breakfast seen on the menu has beans, two fried eggs, a sausage, two succulent pieces of bacon, a succulent hash brown, grilled tomato and sliced toast.
But Claire shared pictures of the plate she was served which had no beans or grilled tomato, and eggs that appeared poached rather than fried.
The paltry-looking breakfast also had unsliced toast and an anaemic looking sausage.
Claire said a member of staff admitted the meal “doesn’t look much, does it?” – after explaining they had run out of some ingredients.
Claire captioned her post: “Absolutely ridiculous to class this as a full all day breakfast. £4.30 each for this.
“Tesco in Shettleston hang your heads in shame.”
Shocked Facebook user James Harringfield responded by saying: “You would get a better breakfast in prison.”
Claire later added: “I did complain then and there and was offered an extra sausage.
“How you can run out of breakfast items when you work in a supermarket is beyond me.
“The lady who brought the plate out to us actually apologised and said herself ‘it doesn’t look much does it?’
“She then came again and apologised after I complained to the cafe manager. She also pointed the manager was new and was still finding his feet.“
Tesco have apologised to Claire for the quality of the breakfast.
A spokesman for Tesco said: “We’re sorry this breakfast didn’t meet our usual high standards.
“We are pleased that the customer has accepted our apology and a gesture of goodwill, and we look forward to welcoming them back into store soon.”
