PRINCESS Diana’s body language ahead of her marriage with Prince Charles in a vintage interview could have warned of things to come, journalist Angela Rippon has revealed.
Before their wedding on July 29, 1981, Princess Diana and Prince Charles were interviewed by then-BBC presenter Angela.
The veteran newsreader, 74, looked back on that interview for new Channel 5 documentary Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding and discovered a telling response by the Princess of Wales hinted at things weren’t right between the pair.
At the end of the interview, Angela wished the pair “all the happiness in the world”.
The couple said “thank you very much” in unison but then Diana’s face seemed to drop.
“That expression on Diana’s face right at the end speaks volumes”
Looking back at the clip in the documentary, Angela said: “That expression on Diana’s face right at the end speaks volumes, gosh.
“When I say, wishing you many happy years together, he looks towards her and she looks down at the floor.
“Goodness, maybe we should have read so much more into that.
“That five seconds at the end of the interview, it may have told us so much more about what was to come.”
The revelation comes ahead of the 38th anniversary of the royal couple’s marriage today.
Di and Charles would stay married for 15 years, but their relationship was turbulent to say the least.
The Princess of Wales exposed her husband’s affair with former girlfriend Camilla Parker Bowles in book Diana, Her True Story.
Their troubles came to a head in a now-infamous Panorama interview in 1996, where Diana said there were “three people” in her marriage.
A year after her divorce, the 36-year-old tragically died in a car crash in a Paris tunnel.
In 2005, Charles married his childhood sweetheart Camilla.
It comes after a royal expert claimed that Prince William stopped his mum Diana from re-marrying and having more kids.
Charles and Di: The Truth Behind Their Wedding airs tomorrow night on Channel 5 at 8pm.
