LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping Manchester United don’t complete a deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been linked with a move for the 24-year-old midfielder.

But the Red Devils are leading the chase with Klopp refusing to be drawn into speculation surrounding his own club’s interest.

Following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool in which Fernandes scored, Klopp said: “If he [joins Manchester United]then we will face him.

“He’s obviously a really good player.

“They have already a few really good players, so that will probably make them stronger.

“It’s not nice, but [United’s transfer dealings are] not our cup of tea, to be honest.”

But the comments have not sat well with Reds fans who feel Fernandes would be a good addition to their side and at the same time deal a blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer plans if they pursued him.

“If we sign him we don’t have to face him and that would be nice?” said one fan.

“Bruno fernandes is a quality player and we should be going in for him. We would get a top top player and destroy the s***’s morale at the same time,” said another.

A third added: “This lad is available at a reasonable price, won’t destroy our wage structure and can cover multiple positions where we need back up.

“He looks like the perfect player for Klopp’s style of football too. Would be mental if we just let United have a free run at him.”

While another was left frustrated by Klopp’s comments, saying: “It bothers me that there’s even talk of s*** being in for him, they are not on the level as a team or management to be thinking of bringing in someone like Fernandes. They’d squander his potential outright.”

However, Liverpool fans may still get their wish with United missing out on Fernandes.

Sky Sports claim at present a deal is unlikely to happen before the August 8 deadline with United first needing to make a decision on which players to sell.
