THE boyfriend of British astrophysicist Dr Natalie Christopher has spoken of his heartbreak following her death in Greece.

Kyriakos Ashikalis said he is “devastated” after his 35-year-old partner plunged down a 65ft ravine while running on the Greek island of Ikaria.

The travel company board member has remained on the island since Dr Christopher’s body was discovered on Wednesday.

Mr Ashikalis, 38, said: “I am devastated. There will be a time when I can talk, but it is not now.”

Dr Christopher was a keen runner and her boyfriend said she went for a jog on Monday morning when she went missing.

Mr Ashikalis needed to be restrained by police at the scene as he cried out in anguish when her body was found.

One rescuer said: “He was screaming and I don’t think he could believe that she was dead.”

Coroner Nikos Karakoukis said that Dr Christopher died instantly after sustaining a massive head injury following a fall he called “almost certainly an accident”.
