BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Miguel Muñoz, a street cleaner, was killed when a homemade bomb exploded in front of a police academy in the southern city of Cipolletti on July 13, officials said. Police said a search of the area led to the discovery of another bomb outside the office of Telefónica de Argentina, but police were able to deactivate it. “The explosive devices were made with a cylinder of gas connected to an electric wire,” a police source told media outlets, including EFE. Miguel Saiz, the governor of the province of Rio Negro, said the attack was executed by “cowardly hands who shelter in anonymity.” “It’s not an action at random, but a carefully mounted operation with a specific aim,” he said, adding authorities “will work together to find the person or persons responsible.” [Lacapital.com.ar (Argentina), 07/13/2010; EFE (Argentina), 14/07/2010]
