A Pegasus Airlines passenger plane skidded off the runway of Trabzon airport in the Black Sea and ended up metres from the sea on Saturday evening.
The Pegasus Airlines Boeing 737-800 with 168 passengers and crew had flown from Ankara to Trabzon on the Black Sea.
No passengers or crew were hurt, and all 162 passengers, two pilots and four cabin crew were evacuated from the plane safely, Trabzon Governor Yücel Yavuz said.
Yavuz said it is not yet known what caused the incident and the airport was closed until 08:00 a.m. local time (05:00 GMT).
“We tilted to the side, the front was down while the plane’s rear was up. There was panic, people shouting, screaming,” one passenger Fatma Gördü reported.
Yüksel Gördü, another passenger, said: “We were saved by a miracle. The plane could’ve burned, exploded or crashed into the sea. But thank God, we are safe. I feel like I’m going crazy every time I remember the moment,”
The incident left Trabzon Airport shut but it reopened on Sunday morning.
