Mavericks SG Matthews (leg) likely done for season

Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Wesley Matthews will likely miss the remainder of the season with a broken right leg.

According to the Mavericks, Matthews fractured his right fibula during the opening quarter of Saturday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Mavericks (21-46) didn’t immediately provide a timetable for his return but it appears season-ending with only 15 games remaining and the team already eliminated from playoff consideration.

Matthews was scratched prior to Sunday’s game against the Houston Rockets due to the soreness. He underwent an MRI exam on Monday and the fracture was detected.

Matthews, 31, has one season remaining on a four-year, $70 million contract.

Matthews is averaging 12.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 63 games this season. He is shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point range.
